TRENT THEATRE CRITICISM, WEEK OF OCTOBER 23, 1911 By J. F. Clancy. AFTERNOON SHOW IOLEEN SISTERS Wire walkers and sharp shooters. Full stage. A good opening act. Went well at the opening show today. Would not care to play it any further down on the bill. SHIRLEY & KESSLER Singing and dancing act in "one." Miss Shirley has a very good voice and the three dancing numbers they do are well received. LEONARD & WHITNEY Comedy sketch in full stage, entitled "Duffy's Rise." This act went very well this afternoon up until the finish, which comes too abruptly. The lines are very bright and situations most amusing. I think if a new finish was provided this act would make a very commendable offering. STEPP, MEHLINGER & KING Singing act in "one." This act went over this afternoon in mighty good shape. The boys were somewhat handicapped by having to close the first half of the show, being continuously interrupted toward the last by people in the audience getting up and leaving for the intermission, which follows. In view of this condition we decided upon a change and at the night show they go up #3 and Leonard & Whitney close the first half. INTERMISSION JOSEPH HART'S "THE BATHING GIRLS" Full stage, own settings. An act made up of a series of scenes and song numbers. Fell flat until the finish, which was given seven or eight curtain calls. BELLE BAKER Singer. In "One." Miss Baker, is unquestionably the hit of the show, Sang six songs at the matinee today, and any one who can put over six songs in this house and get by with them, in our estimation, possesses more than ordinary ability. CHICK & CHICKLETS A novel comedy bicycle act in full stage. The novelty consists in the very clever work done by two children. Makes a good closing act.
