Saving...
Report on Providence Show, Week of September 16, 1912. Chas. Lovenberg, Manager. The show is not nearly as satisfactory as those of the first two weeks of the season, our lameness being in the first half of the show and without a particular startling feature to attract attention or to draw business. Wilbur Sweatman A young colored man who plays the clarinet in various ways; hardly an act that could be figured upon from a big time standpoint, just about got by. Did 15 min. in One at the opening show, cut him down to 12. Claude M. Roode This man does some good stunts on the wire, but sets of that kind have had their day and the best that could be said of this man is "all right to open the show. 8 Min. f.s. McMahon, Diamond & Clemens. This act was a distinct disappointment. I had been led to expect a great deal from it; as a matter of fact, there is nothing to the act but the girl's scare-crow business, which runs 3 to 4 minutes, although there is a good dance of about 2 min. by the boy. The rest of the act is very tame indeed, opening and closing poorly. 13 Min. open and close in one. Mabel Adams & Co. I think if there had been three live acts ahead of Miss Adams it would have helped her materially; following three acts, none of which made any impression upon the audience, with her quiet stuff she failed to reach the audience until well into the act. There is nothing of special merit abut it; it is rather interesting; her violin playing seems to have improved; she has a nice production and all that, but from the standpoint of what we received, I should say that the act is somewhat over-paid. 23 min. f.s. Brenner & Ratcliffe The show practically started here. these people's act has been described from other cities and the same good impression that they made everywhere else they succeeded in making here. Zelda Sears & Co. Another act that everybody knows about. It is only necessary for me to say that it went very well indeed. 23 min. f.s. Donovan & McDonald The hit of theshow. 30 min. in one and a half. Great Tornadoes A lively acrobatic act, introducing some rather difficult and dangerous tricks; the only trouble with the act being that we have had so many things of just the same kind tht they failed to interest the audience. It would be all right to close a bang up show. It did not lend any strength to this one. 7 min. f.s. Motion Pictures Pathe Weekly - O.D. N.B. The show went much better at the night performance. I put the Tornadoes on No. 2, which livend up the early part of the show and Caude Roode closed the performance and got away with it in very fair shape. The Tornadoes did a much better act at night; they were handicapped in the afternoon by the fall of one of the boys. Other than this my report on the individual acts stands as above.
