C.E. BARNS PHILADELPHIA SHOW AUGUST 19, 1912 BEN BEYER & BRO 10 min F.S Well known act. One man works straight, the other, messenger boy comedy, both expert and got good hand for their work throughout. Started the show off very well, and closed strong. EDDIE ROSS 13 min in one. This man was a distinct hit all the way through. Started off with excellent banjo work, proceeded with some bully stories, and wound up with whistling and banjo work which was very strongly applauded. Could hold a good spot on any bill. KENO & GREENE 18 F.S. close in one. This act held the place very well. Opened with some good dancing, then with a change of costume gave a good line of patter that could be improved upon by shortening a little. Their hypnotic, ragtime and bugaboo dance in one for an encore, scored big. TESHOWS CATS 11 min F.S. Very interesting and particularly pleasing to the children. The act is well dressed, and the cats go through their stunts without much urging. Each one of their stunts got applause. Closed very well. BABY HELEN-8 min in one. This is a born little actress and no mistake, is self-possessed as a veteran and whatever she does is finished and not at all in the conventional juvenile manner. Everything she said and did got a big hand, and the applause at the close was strong. MEISTERSINGERS 35 min F.S. Everybody has looked forward to the coming of this act with so much interest that it is no wonder the enthusiasm was tremendous to-day from the start to finish. Every good thing that has been said of them elsewhere found fullest justification here. In male vocal work there can be nothing more finished and appealing to musical taste, vaudeville and otherwise. Every number whether solo, duet, quartette or chorus, received splendid applause and the finish was so big they were compelled to give four encores. The scene set is great. This act will be the talk of Philadelphia before their engagement is over. JOE WELCH 25 min in one. Always a great favorite here. The best line of stuff he has ever given us. The veritable scream all the way through. Compelled to come back and give an encore which was irrestiable funny and got the crowd hysterical with laughter. THE GREAT ERGOTTI 10 min FS Well known European act that makes a fine class. Worked better than ever to-day. The children seemed especially to enjoy it. One of the Lilliputians puts considerable comedy into his work. Got good applause throughout and fine close. KINETOGRAPH An exceptionally good Pathe Magazine film. GENERAL REMARKS. As we knew it would be (from the way the show was laid out), it proved to be a winner from start to finish and is sure to be talked about the length and breadth of the city, with business according. CUTS EDDIE ROSS Please eliminate expression "Kissing pink toes" and the joke that follows.
