REPORT ON COLUMBUS SHOW, WEEK, SEPTEMBER 2, 1912--W.W. PROSSER. CLARA BALLERINI: Well known trapeze artist. Did very well as an opener. Garden in 5, 8 minutes. (Memphis) SMYTHE & HARTMAN: Man and woman, singing and talking. Just a fair act. The opening is tame and ineffective. They improve some and finally round out a moderately strong finish. Olio in one, 16 minutes. (New York) THE THREE LYRES: Three men in a conventional musical act. Two straight and one black face. Play brass and Xylophone. Their playing is all right, but they lack showmanship. Sort of half-hearted in delivery. Not enough snap and ginger. Too much talk. Notwithstanding, they made a fairly good impression and finished moderately strong. Palace in two, 20 minutes. (Utica, N.Y.) MACART & BRADFORD: Wellknown players in "A Legitimate Hold-Up". Made very good impression throughout and finished strong. Open in one, close C.D.F. 22 minutes. (Indianapolis) PATSY DOYLE: "The Droll Humorist". Fairly well received. No finish to speak of. Street in one, 11 minutes. (Pittsburgh) HARRY BERESFORD & CO: Three men, two women in character sketch, "In Old New York". Very good story of the tenements, well told and well acted. Held closest attention throughout, making a distinctly favorable impression. Finished strong. Special in four, 20 minutes. (Youngstown) BELLE STORY: "Singer". One of the best singles we have had in a long time. Young, pretty with excellent style. The singer who sings. Easily the hit of the bill. Finished very strong. Olio in one. 14 minutes. (Chicago) MARTINETTI & SYLVESTER: Wellknown acrobatic duo. Did fine as a closer, holding everyone to the finish. Special in 4, 12 minutes. (Louisville) PATHE WEEKLY: O.K. NOTE:- We were in bad shape for the matinee. Ballerini did not arrive until after 3 o'clock. Her baggage got here about 4 o'clock. As a result we could not get up her rigging without stopping the show and she did not appear for the opening performance. She came from Grand Rapids which is a bad jump for Columbus. Last week, Sumiko failed to get here from the same place and also missed the opening show. Belle Story, coming from Syracuse, lost her trunks and had to appear in street clothes. This gave us another black eye. Patsey Doyle just got his baggage in time to get on and that was all. Martinetti and Sylvester did not get here until after 2 o'clock and I feared they would not arrive at all. They were held up on account of a washout between here and Pittsburgh. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we gave an excellent seven act show but it was a genuine task. It will not take many more Monday disappointments to kill our opening matinee, as was the case three season ago when Fred Walton started our streak of bad luck.
