REPORT on BOSTON SHOW for WEEK of AUGUST 31st - 1914 (R. G. Larsen) "BOSTON in MOTION" 15 minutes in one. Picture sheet. Customary series of local news events. WILLS and HASSAN 9 minutes f.s. Palace. Very good opening act of the conventional kind. SUE SMITH 11 minutes in one. Olio Drop. A fair #2 act with a lot of patriotic stuff that we cut out here after the afternoon show. Went over in fair shape. SKINNER and WOODS 8 minutes in one. Garden Drop. Two boys that we brought in to give us enough show. Have a good dancing routine and got over in great shape. MAURICE WOOD 12 minutes F.S. Open music room. Close in one. Olio Drop. Here is a very clever girl with a good line of material, but unfortunately she opened with a song called "I've Got A Live John Now," which is pretty strong for this house, and after that had difficulty in getting the audience. She is toning this song down, has nothing to replace it with, but claims she is having another song written. She does impersonations of Irene Franklin, Eddie Foy, Eva Tanguay, and others, is certainly clever, and looks like a comer. HOPKINS-AXTELL COMPANY 16 minutes open in one. Street. Close special set in f.s. Same act we played before, and going well. WARD BAKER 12 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Violinist. This man only did 9 minutes at the afternoon show and got away with it as he should have with this amount of time. HENRY E. DIXEY and MARIE NORDSTROM in "CASTLE ROMANCE" 21 minutes f.s. Special set. This sketch is entirely unworthy of Dixey. While it got over here to-day in fair shape, and got some laughs, it is certainly not value for the money, and it is a shame to have a good man like Dixey wasted on an affair of this kind. I would rather play him in his old act. CECILE WESTON and LOUISE LEON 15 minutes in one. Olio Drop. Here are two very clever girls that started slowly but worked up to a good finish. HARRY COOPER and CHARLES HENDERSON in "THE MAIL CARRIER" 19 minutes in one. Street. Seems to be well known and got over in good shape. RICE, SULLY and SCOTT 8 minutes f.s. Special set. A good fast bar act.
