Report of Providence show, week of September 7, 1914. Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr. SPRAGUE & MCNEECE Man and woman in a very clever skating act, nicely dressed and they do some clever work; well appreciated. 9 minutes F. S. WARD BAKER Straight violinist. I am not personally very strongly impressed with Mr. Baker's work and it doesn't strike me as the sort of thing vaudeville people care for, it being neither high-class nor ragtime, however, the fact remains that he did go well even with a holiday audience, that I was afraid might not like him. 13 minutes in one. BERTHA CREIGHTON & CO. In a comedy sketch entitled "Our Husband". this is a particularly good sketch and Miss Creighton's work is exceedingly clever while her support is good. Plenty of laughs and just enough of seriousness to make it interesting. An act that no house should feat to book and feature. 19 minutes. F. S. HAWTHORNE & INGLIS Two young men in a "nut" act that is decidedly nutty. They made them laugh considerably with a lot of junk and got a good many recalls-on their trick of bringing out instruments to give the impression that they had something more to do. This is a good act but not worth anything more than I am paying. 18 minutes in one. THE PEKIN MYSTERIES Headed by Hang Ping Chien with a company of five assistants. This is an exceedingly good act that lived up to headline honors with credit. The principal man does work on the order of Ching Ling Foo and about as good with the addition of some very good comedy. A little boy does a dance on single poles and two of the men do some excellent contortion work. The act is well staged, put on in showmanlike manner, nice costumes and hangings, and is first class in every respect. They got plenty of applause all through and a tremendous hand at the finish. The act could be boosted in New York and put on for a run by proper advertising. 25 minutes F. S. KIRK & FOGARTY In an act of comedy and singing. Mr. Fogarty is an excellent comedian and, while the act is a good one, I think Miss Kirk's work could be improved upon. They held down the spot satisfactorily, however, due to Mr. Fogarty's ability. 20 minutes in one. THE COWBOY MINSTRELS A good act of the kind that just managed to get over in this difficult spot. Earlier on the bill they would have no doubt fared better. 20 minutes open F. S. close in one. SAM LAVERN & CO. Two men in a hand balancing act of fair quality assisted by one exceedingly short fat man and another very tall thin man, who do some comedy including some of Collins & Hart stuff. Not a very great act. 12 minutes F. S. MOTION PICTURES O. K.
