Saving...
H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW OCT. 12, 1914. HEARST-SELIG PICTURES. On account of the length of the show, we simply used the war pictures which filled ten minutes very acceptably. LA TOY BROS. 11 min. Have a new quiet opening. After that the act is same as last season. Made a very satisfactory opener. Did three minutes in one today as a special favor which is not as good as the rest of the act. McDEVITT, KELLY & LUCEY. 18 min. This well known Philadelphia team, familiar probably to every person in our audience this afternoon, made their accustomed hit. Comedy went over well, dancing received with much applause. Started the show off with a bang. MR. & MRS. JIMMY BARRY. "The Rube." 21 min. Started quietly but picked up as they went along. Got many laughs. Went over very well "SERGEANT BAGBY." 22 min. Same act as presented last season with a new cast. While the cast cannot be called unsatisfactory, at the same time it did not seem to me that the character drawing was quite as fine as last season. Received attention from a big holiday crowd. Got a number of laughs and closed well but not big. CHRIS RICHARDS. 9 min. in One. Doing the same act as last season with but one new song. Held the spot nicely but not quite as good as last year. LAMBERTI. 20 min. F.S. Another familiar act. Lamberti undoubtedly scored the artistic hit of the show, nearly all his characters being strongly applauded. Always sure-fire in this house. MA BELLE. 16 min. After the adverse reports I had on this act from New York, I was agreeably surprised, although the act is not as fast nor as good as it was last season. I do not think MaBelle has as lively girls as last year. While this is an act that never calls for much applause in a house, it seemed to interest the audience and went over fairly well. Needs more speed which MaBelle has promised to get for me during the week. LEW DOCKSTADER. 20 min. Doing his impersonation of "Teddy." Received a tremendous reception and had them screaming from the time he went on till he got off. Apparently is going to make a very satisfactory headliner to a good all-round bill. LIPINSKI'S DOGS. 16 min. This was Lipinski's opening in America. The act is on the order of Barnhold's and Derkin's. I could follow either one, however, as Lipinski has twice as many dogs, they are better trained, and scenically it far surpasses either and he introduces novel electrical effects. Received with much favor this afternoon following a late show with the crowd very much excited over the baseball reports. The only adverse criticism, if possible, would be that it is slow in spots. This is due, however, to the fact that it is their first show since they came off the ship and to my mind will be the best act of its kind we have ever played. Too good an act to close a show and will be a feature on any bill no matter how big. GEN. REMARKS. This is a corking good show. While it lacks novelty, it makes up for that in the comedy end. Proved entirely satisfactory this afternoon.
