Saving...
Report on Providence show week of December 21, 1914. Chas. Lovenberg, Mgr. We have a fairly good bill this week but by no means an extraordinary one. We are also handicapped in the time. I never saw so many short acts in my life on one bill. This makes the sort of a handicap that one must start very late or get out very early or both unless we take the alternative of putting in another act and adding to the expense. To my mind an act that cannot fill ten minutes, no matter how clever their work is, is hardly worth consideration. LUPITA PEREA A very attractive girl on the trapeze who does a few remarkable tricks. By the time that the audience gets really interested, the act is over 5 1/2 minutes F. S. THE MISSES HOPKINS They manage to get by fairly well in this spot. 10 minutes in one. DIAZ' MONKEYS An old time sort of an act which answers the purpose of entertaining the children. They do nothing worth consideration by the adult mind. 9 minutes F. S. PARILLO & FABRITO Italian accordian and guitar players, singers, and comedians. A good lively act that went very well indeed. 11 minutes in one. BERT LESLIE & COMPANY Mr. Leslie's sketch, like all others, is simply an opportunity for him to give his slang expressions, of which he is unquestionably the best exponent, all the others are simply poor imitators. I believe his vehicle this time is the best of any he has had. Plenty of laughs all through. 18 minutes F. S. LEW DOCKSTADER Mr. Dockstader has, in my opinion, an exceptionally good monologue but it did not go very well this afternoon as the house was made up mostly of women and children. I look for him to go much better at the night performance. I do think that his working the Star Spangled Banner and making the people arise and making a joke of it is particularly bad taste. I might almost call it an insult to our National Anthem. Of course we cut it out here but I am mentioning this to prepare other houses that they may, if they see fit, but it before he opens. 16 minutes in one. MARVELOUS MANCHURIANS Chinese acrobats that have been described from other houses. A very good act indeed. 9 minutes F. S. COMFORT & KING By long odds the best act and the big hit of the show. 22 minutes in one. WOODS & WOODS TRIO I never could see this act and do not consider their wire work very clever and the girl is only a bad imitation of Bird Millman. The best feature of the act is the little fellow who does the comedy. 9 minutes F. S. MOTION PICTURES O. K.
