H. T. JORDAN PHILADELPHIA SHOW JAN. 11, 1915. HEARST-SELIG PICTURES. 15 min. some excellent war films brought the pictures up to a satisfactory average. THE CANSINOS. 11 min. F.S. Man and woman in a series of Spanish dances, different from what has been seen in vaudeville since the dance craze started, therefore, a novelty. Finish with a whirlwind trot which brought fine results. Did nicely in the opening spot. TURELLY. 8 min. in One. "One Man Band." Young fellow plays selections on the harmonica, getting splendid results from this instrument. Plays classical, popular and ragtime music. Excellent musician. Received a fairly good hand at the finish. "ON THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS." 21 min. F.S. Bart McHugh's production. Local act here and this helped, but act has plenty of snap and action to it with a lot of slapstick comedy that gets over in good shape through the clever handling by the man. The latter is also a good eccentric dancer and makes the "Hinkey Dee" number go strong. There is a woman with a good voice and seven girls who sing and dance well. A burlesque wedding ceremony proved a screaming hit at the finish and the act scored strongly. LILIAN HERLEIN. 17 min. in One. Classy singing "single." Opens with a costume song during which she makes five changes. Follows with a ballad and then two descriptive songs, working up some comedy. finished with a number called "Eyes" which she worked up strong. Her numbers went well and she was liberally applauded at the finish. MARVELOUS MANCHURIANS. 10 min. F.S. Special set. Five Chinamen who are wonderful athletes and live up to their billing. Routine consists of ground tumbling, hand-balancing with all new tricks and an aerial trick during which two of the men hang by their queues while a third does some gymnastics. This is a real thriller and makes the audience gasp with surprise. Finish with a fast routine of floor work. A distinct novelty, away from anything ever seen and a sure hit for any bill. McMAHON & CHAPPELLE. 21 min. in "one." They are doing their old act, "Hubby Missed the Train" but it has been considerably freshened up and is a sure laugh-winner. They kept the audience convulsed all through the act and were given a warm hand at the finish. MR. & MRS. CARTER DeHAVEN. 25 min. F.S. and "one." They are doing "The Masher" which is a combination of "bits" mostly taken from "The Girl in the Taxi" in which they formerly starred. The piece has more of a plot to it than anything they have shown in vaudeville before and they introduce several musical numbers and two or three dancing bits. They inject their usual amount of class to their work and the act went very well without scoring a great hit. ROONEY & BENT. 22 min. in One. Their new offering is along the same line as others, some of the best "bits" of past offerings being used. They scored a big hit with it for they made every point go over through the way it was handled. Rooney also showed some new stuff, doing a dance in evening clothes and an orchestra-pit bit that got a lot of laughs. Finished as usual by burlesquing with Tim McMahon and they put over a real good laugh. Act scored a solid hit. HANLON BROS. & CO. 17 min. F.S., special set. "The Haunted Hotel" is a typical Hanlon pantomime act with a lot of comedy worked in with good results. The act has lots of variety to it and won plenty of laughs as well as liberal applause. At the close of a late show it kept a big house thoroughly amused and made a good closing number for this show.
