Report of Providence show week of January 11, 1915. Charles Lovenberg, Manager. This show lets down pretty badly after the excellent bill of last week. There is very little in it of material consequence outside of the Una Clayton act that means anything at the box office. I looked for it to be a great comedy bill but somehow or other the comedy did not eventuate. MACK & WILLIAMS Old fashioned dancing act with a little novelty of the stair-case. Fell pretty flat. 14 minutes greater part of the act in one about 5 minutes F. S. THE BRADS Comedy contortion act. Man and woman. The woman does some clever stunts and the man is quite funny but before the thing gets well started, it is all over. 7 minutes in one. JOHN R. GORDON & CO. In a sketch called "Knight & Day". This was a distinct disappointment. I had been led to believe that it was a big laughing hit. Possibly with better actors that result might be obtained. As it was, it was only mediocre. 14 minutes F. S. LYONS & YOSCO These two boys drew the first real applause of the performance. Act too well known to require comment. 15 minutes in one. UNA CLAYTON & CO. In a sketch called "Milk" in which Miss Clayton plays one of her well known types this being one of a little New York East side mother. This is a very good sketch and as a whole well played. In addition to this it lends itself to exploitation. We have had endorsements here not only of the New York Milk Committee, Nathan Straus, etc. but also the cooperation of the Housewives' League, The Federation of Mothers Club, the Governor of the State, the Mayor of the City, the Board of Aldermen, the President of the Council, etc. All of them have given us the use of their names and public endorsements of the sketch. The act itself is all right and with a better bill surrounding it, it would appear to special advantage. As to salary I should say about $600.00 would be its value. 30 minutes F. S. CAMERON & O'CONNOR This act is very well known and requires very little comment on my part. while it went better with the audience than it did with me, it failed to clean up and was not a hit or worth the amount of money being paid it. 21 minutes in one. DUNBAR'S BELL RINGERS Five men in a very attractive act. The bell ringing was of the old Swiss bell ringers style. So old that it was new. The five men also sing very well and the act is mounted in nice taste but it is not worth anything like the salary I am paying for it, in spite of the fact, that Mr. Webber expects to get a great deal more. $350.00 to $400.00 is all I can see in it. 11 minutes F. S. -2- BILLY MCDERMOTT Mr. McDermott fell down with an awful thud, unquestionably due to the fact that he came back with every if, and, and but of his act the same as he has given us before. Many of his jokes were old years ago. He certainly should have had at least one new gag. Maybe the audience to-night will not be so discriminating 23 minutes in one. THE BIALS Man and woman in a comedy ring and hat juggling act, who played for us a couple of years ago, who did very well indeed. Very good value for the amount of money expended. Held the audience in good style. 10 minutes F. S.
