LATE NEWS AS WE GO TO PRESS June 22, 1943 Battle Creek: Al and Abby Lu Ashley purchase home and "Slan Shack" is a reality. They plan to rent rooms exclusively to fans. Walt Liebscher has moved there from Joliet; Dal Coger expected to follow soon. Wiedenbeck has room leased in advance. "Slan Shack" begins life with five fans. FAPA: June mailing of the Fantasy Amateur Press Assn now out and contains 33 publications, including amendment to enlarge to 65 members, which is certain to pass. Fans desiring info on joining may obtain same from Widner, Ashley, Speer, Chauvenet or LeZ. Promotion: It is now Lt. Dorothy Les Tina, doing WAAC publicity work at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. Travel: Martin Alger, who did two rocket photo covers for Le Zombie now overseas---Africa. Pro: Liebster informs that Mary Gnaedinger has chosen the book by J. Leslie Mitchell, "Three Go Back" for her November issues of FFM. Yarn is time-travel tale, transporting two men (a pacifist and a munitions maker) and a girl (who writes gay novels) back to slowly-sinking Atlantis where Cro-Magnards & Neanderthals battles it out. Flop: Unger's FFF weekly verifies "inside" news LeZ hinted at two issues ago but couldn't reveal: Astonishing and Super Science are a couple of dead ducks. Paper shortage did it. Sword Overhead: Walt Daugherty writes that induction is as close as this is to you face; meanwhile new zoning system has added the numerals "44" to his address, to be placed after Los Angeles, and before Calif. More Zoning: Lowndes in section 16 of ew York; DB Thompson in number 7 ditto of Alexandria, La; Harry Honig in 21 in San Francisco; the devil is presumably in the same sector of hell.
