Page Four -- Science Fiction Collector-- On The DIfficulties of Conversion by Joseph Gilbert I HAD JUST finished my lunch and was ready to go back to work in nthe ice cream parlor where I worked last summer. Picking up a copy of the fifth New Fandom which I had been glancing through, I started to toss it under the counter, when Silverburg, the owner of the parlor, caught slight of the cover. "You're a communist!" I naturally denied the charge angrily. "Let's see the cover of that magazine again." I showed it to him and his face changed. "Oh, I thought it said New [[underline]]Free[[end underline]]dom!" He apologized, a bit sheepishly, but I resigned not long after. That is an extreme case, and rather off the subject of this article, but it serves to illustrate the point that a science fiction fan must be prepared to endure more than a little misunderstanding when he sallies out to co[n]vert, or rather, attempt to convert, his friends.
