Schumann Ruddy Globe adrift on high, Glowing orb in empty sky; What mysteries do you withhold, What creatures lived, of ages old? Proud ruins bound a treeless plain, Where naught but canali remain; Not a breath of life astir, Only proof of things that were. Polar caps faroff are seen, Gas condensed, with snowy sheen; Desert sand lies over all, Hill and plain and castle hall.
