Saving...
THE LIFE OF A MAN The river gleams as sunlight ebbs Through autumn leaves, as sunlight streams Through webbed clouds and plows long rows Of white and ties the wheat in sheaves On top of marble moss green stones. Dark flakes of ash splash on the grain; An ambling train shakes spearheads from The earth, then fades into the sere Brown mist that lurks in hidden glades Where maiden winds kiss leaves and pluck Old roses from gold stems. I sigh, And watch the blackness disappear, The ashes blend with harvest light, White birches shimmer in the sun. --SHIRLEY CHAPPER.
