Basically, the SF fan is no different from any other collector--he yields, like the others, to the all powerful DESIRE TO POSSESS!! The reason why he collects fantasy, and not bugs or milk bottle bungs, has already been explained...sublimated or frustrated sex instinct. So let us, as sane SF fans, try to convince the Michelists and Escapists of the error of their ways. Elysium will never be achieved through STF; and the Escapists deserve a good kick in the pants (and a dose of Pelmanism), to teach them self-confidence; and show them that the world, despite its weaknesses, can be a happy hunting-ground for anyone with a morsel of sanity and self-respect. Lay off the Pen-Names! By "Astra" In the name of sanity and of good science-flction I appeal for a halt! You art apt to look complacently about at the growing number of fantasy fans, and say that the taste of the general public is being lifted to the high levels of science fiction. It isn't! Authors are stooping to the taste (or lack of same) of the mob and churning out trash by the bucketful (look through the latest issues of any stf magazine. There are some authors more in demand than others because they possess the hack ability much stronger than others. And what do these authors do in order to reap in the shekels? They adopt pen names, my children! The pen-name menace grows daily. I honestly think
