Sept 28, 1944 Dear Folks, I'm all curled up in my tent tonight writing by the light of a candle. Its raining outside but its pretty nice in here. We got wet as heck this afternoon and have no way of drying our clothes, but I suppose that goes with the army. Outside of my 6 ft 6-1/2 in buddie, myself and some other junk in this little pup tent, we have plenty of room, like heck. Yesterday we worked in planting anti-tank mines in fields. In the afternoon we worked with the tanks. We didn't exactly work, but rather rode hanging on the outside like they ride them in combat. Myself, well, I got inside the darn thing and rode in the gunners seat. It was fun, but I don't know if I'd like riding in there waiting for someone to shoot at me. In the evening I took a bath, shave in a stream about 200 yds from here. After that we built another fire and sang until about
