Oct 5, 1944 Dear Folks, Guess I'd better get you written again before you think I'm lost out here. First I'll start and get you caught up with the news. Last Monday was a very easy day as all we did was have classes and review on alot of different subjects. I guess we just messed around the camp fire that night. Tuesday morning we ran a problem with tanks again. We used real ammo but this was just a company problem so we didn't blow up too much. We got to fire the mortars some. It was funny too. I was acting squad leader and they ran my gun off in the brush so that we couldn't see the target. They told us to fire so we got sore and fired without a sight on the gun. After the problem the captain and a major complimented the squad on firing so fast and accurately. We just guessed the general direction of the target and thats what happened.
