Oct 22, 1944 Dear Folks, Its been quite awhile hasn't it? I'll start way back two weeks ago and sort of try and get caught up with things. As I told you then, we were preparing to run a two week problem. We started early on that Monday morning and have been going strong ever since, except me, but I'll get to that in a minute. To start off with it was darned hard work and at times very cold. Yes, even in Ala. it gets cold now. In fact there were nights on which I nearly froze. We started an attack with two Regt. against one, which would last for two days. We would then rotate and take turns of being on the defence. As I said, it was hard work and cold. We were lucky because it only rained one day and it was miserable. We couldn't set up tents so we just had to sit there in a hole with a raincoat on. Some
