Saving...
of the other nights I'd dig a hole, fill it with grass then wrap up in a blanket and crawl in. It wasn't too good, but it helped me to keep warm. There really isn't much else I can tell you about the problems. We did fire some, but mostly we just walked and dug fox holes. Here is where my luck changed. I was pulled out of the company and put back to teaching some new men on the mortar. This, as you can guess, was a darned sight easier work than I had been doing. I spent the rest of the week out there just teaching through the days. I could not write letters however. I managed to stay clean, or reasonably so, by swimming in a creek once in awhile. We got into camp Sat. noon. Even this looked very good to us. I'm glad its over, but it was good training to live in the field for a full month. I doesn't sound so long just saying it but it is a long time when you are there. This is a poor description of what has been going on the past two two weeks, but its the best I can do.
