June 5, 1944 Dear Folks, I just have a few minutes as it is now during the noon hour and I haven't much time. I'll probably have to finish tonight. Saturday, while I was in Ozardk was the last I wrote so I'll start from there. I wrote letters most of the afternoon (7 of them). I then when out to a place where they were having a dance. I danced a little then went back to the USO where I had reserved a cot. That was about 12:00. I got up at 7:00 Sunday morning and caught the bus back to camp. My reasons for coming back was that we had to paint and clean the motars. We started work at 8:00 A.M. and worked until 9:00 that night. Quite a Sunday wasn't it? We had this big 2nd army inspection to get ready for. This morning we got up at 4:30 and gave our rifles the once over again. We then turned all of our weapons in and went out to train. We went about three mile out of camp and had P.T. and some patrolling. We did that all morning. This afternoon we took out the mortar, as they had been inspected and was to work on them. We got out
