Saving...
I'm managing to save some of it so I'll be prepared in case of a furlough. I should get one in a couple months or so. At least not before July 8. I am now 1st gunner of a motar squad. That means that I carry the gun and put in ready for action when firing. I do the sighting & all the reading of the firing table. It is to hard to explain in a letter so I'll wait till I get home some time. Hope I can keep the job. I am armed with a trench knife and a 45 cal automatic pistol. We had the gunner test yesterday for the motar and I made 1st class gunner. The score was 1st class, 2nd class and flunk. It was putting the gun into action and making different sight readings, taking it out of action etc. This was all against time. I put it in action in 22 seconds which is pretty good. That river must be on the war path in good order. Sure is staying up a long time. It looks like it might rain before long. Its terribly hot and some black clouds are coming over.
