Saving...
Nov 29, 1944 Dear Folks, I hope you haven't been worrying about not hearing from me for so long, but now I have a permanet address so we are all set for awhile. At least I hope this is the last change. Now to get on to the news. I am now in Southern England living in a small village. My company seperated from the rest of the outfit and have moved into vacant buildings of all sorts. I, and the rest of my platoon, live in a "church hall" or something like our "community halls." We are gradually getting things straighted around so that it is fairly nice. The one sore spot is the fact that our showers are outside in a shed and its none too warm. I guess that catchs the living quarters that we have. The village is very old, in fact it was established on record back in 881. One hotel here was built in 1500 so that gives you an idea of how it looks. Its just like in pictures with its narrow streets and stone buildings and fences. The people seem very friendly towards soldiers and all ready have arranged a party for tomorrow night. Maybe we can get fairly well aquainted while we are here. There isn't much in the way of recreation except what we make for ourselfs. Not even a movie. The shops, except the "pubs" or beer halls are closed to us because of the shortages in most things. I guess that leaves me very little to spend my money on. Speaking of money, this stuff has me a little confused.
