Sept 27, 1945 My dearest Carroll, Hi darling! This is the kind of nite a person loves to stay home [with] just the family & pop corn, have apples & cakes. It's raining out & has been all day. And yesterday too. This P.M. I had to go downtown cuz I broke the crystal in my watch. On the way home it started to pour down rain & we were absolutely soaked. And I had to go back on duty at 3:30.
