Sept 10, 1945 My Dearest Evelyn, Hi darling! How's my wonderful girl today? I had every intention in the world of writing you last night, but things happened and I couldn't. I'll tell you about it. Last evening we decided to take a truck and go for a swim. There were six of us so we grabbed a portable radio and took off. We were supposed to get back early, but we didn't make it. One of the guys got some stuff to drink some place and they really went to it. The next thing I knew I had five drunks on my hands.
