June 16, Wed. Dear Folks, Guess where I am? I'm in my usual letter writing place. I'm telling you they don't give you time to turn around here. Boy is it ever hot here tonight. Its by far the hottest we've had. I'm tired as heck but its so hot I thought I would write because I couldn't sleep. It will be terrible tomorrow from the way it feels now. It was hot today. Several fellows passed out again. I think the whole bunch would have liked to. Strand just made it in then he flopped. We marched out into the country about 3 miles with full field packs and rifles. We practiced creeping and crawling up on the enemy. Also we got instructions on how to read the compass. Tonight we had to check all our clothes. That took all the spare time we might have had. I guess I had all the clothes I was supposed to. They gave out passes tonight for the
