June 6, 1945 My dearest Evelyn, It has been a long time hasn't it? I guess its best for me to start back a ways and catch up and then you will understand the delay. To begin with, I last wrote you from La Baule, France where we went right after V-E day. That was in the German held pocket we were guarding. We soon received orders to move from there so we were loaded onto boxcars. We started traveling day and night. We passed through Paris and then went on into Belgium.
