July 2, 1945 Dearest Evelyn, I just got back from my tour of guard duty and I'm certainly glad that is over. What a dusty hole this is. I had to wear dust goggles in order to see at all. Stood out there for four hours and boy do I feel dirty. I'm off for the showers as soon as I finish writing you, but this comes first. Much more important if I do say so myself. I go on again at four o'clock in the morning and have another four hour go then. No rest for the wicked I guess. Looks like I'll spend most of the day in bed tomorrow.
