January 31, 1946 Dear Vera, Steamer & Meg, Hi! Winter is really here again. Snow & ice & wind! This place is about as bad as Chicago. Was really chilly at the cottage. Wind tore thru as if it were made of paper. We sat & played bridge & kept our tempers up -- so we kept pretty warm. We have really been busy in the house lately. Every bed filled all of the time. We have 2 or 3 deliveries every nite. Last nite we had twin girls. So cute. The pets of the nursery already. Kay & I are back to working 7-7 one nite a week but isn't bad at all. We're supposed to sleep for 3 hours if not busy but we usually find something to do. I rec'd a letter from Carroll today. He seemed to be in much better spirits. Said now [with] the new
