January 12 8:00 P.M. [1943?] Dear Mom,- So your "heaping coals of fire" eh? Maybe I do deserve it at that, but perhaps this will make up for it a little bit. I wonder just how happy "Smitty" is? If he's as happy as he would have been if it hadn't of been for Evelyn's untimely death. But if his new wife can make him happy, knowing about Evelyn as she must, then I say more power to her.
