JANUARY 20 1942. Like spring - Met Hans at 1:42 A.M. train Sent him off for 3 weeks. Made chicken cornucopias, noodle and veg soup, apple crisp. for Happy Home Club. Drove down for Maine 13 and Mrs. Whalen and Meicher. Read in A. J. Cronin's The Stars Look Down. 1943. Slept till 7:30. We made my plaid house dress. 1944. Throat better. Discovered my plaid dress shrunk in washing. Cut out red and white pajamas for Signe and made top part. Car wouldn't start. Wrote Amanda. Card from Jay. 1945. Slept despite indigestion because I took last Nembutal. I had hoarded for year or 2, but was dizzy nearly all A.M. Baked bread, worked on rug and doily. Got checks for $200. From Amanda to finish their debt to us- and even $25 interest! 19° 29° 1946. Didn't go to church for itching- Began reading "Brideshead Revisited" by Evelyn Waugh. Sleet and snow in eve. Mr. and Mrs. McIntyre here in eve. She and I beat the men 4 games in a row, of "500." Learned 2 new solitaire games- Served orange pop and last of Han's birthday cake
