JANUARY 7 1917. Not much like Sunday. Papa and I went to George's. We sent him to town on a motor-truck then to Iowa City on 3:10 train. After being X-rayed in University hospital, he was taken to the Homeopathic hosp. Mamma and I came home, tired. 1918. -20°, but sunny. Word from Sis that Beatrice is getting well-had complex indigestion. I mended up a month's supply of stockings, and some of Hans' clothes. We got Constance Lorents to stay here. Her mother brought her in in the P.M. School board accept Hans' resignation-reluctantly. Supt. Anderson got Mr. Christianson to come back to take Hans' place. 1919. Baked white and graham bread, canned 6 qts. citron-plum sauce and citron-rhubarb conserve. Called on Mrs. Rees, just back from a visit home, and Mrs. Stewart. Bernice moved to Alpha Zeta house. Hans was in office in P.M. but Dr. Burkland told him to stay home-his condition is run down. 1920. I cut out myself striped blue and white silk-and-wool dress and sewed quite a bit on it. Hilda and I were counted here in the census. Wrote to Hans, Papa went to Des Moines to State Farm Bureau meeting. 1921. Card from mamma in Des M. Continued mild weather. Velma went home after four days here, also Adela, after school. Just Hilda and I here at noon, so had no dinner to get. Repaired woolen blanket mamma gave me, cut out little white dress from Hans' wedding shirt, and a plaid dress for Hilda from material Helena gave me. Wrote to Sis + Euphemia.
