1917. Oats sowing begins. Using milking machine now. After staying all night with Mabel Helmick, at Cord Hall's, breakfast at Miller's. I walked part way home, then caught Ford ride. Ironed some, began work on my Easter hat. Dyed white frame with blue water color, then put on braid. 1918. Baked bread and rolls, did much ironing, including 40 h'dk'fs. As wife of Co. Agent, have to get used to sudden changes in plans: Early dinner on short notice, took Hans to Cowles', then Mrs. Kirby and I went to Women's Club in Burbank. I drove. She talked poultry, and I, canning. Prof. [illegible] + wife called in eve. 1919. Fine sunny day. I stained bed supports, the two porch boxes and clothes basket handles; scrubbed fibre rug, cleaned neckties, etc. Sat on porch in P.M. to clean a Mo. R fish, and stuff a cushion with pine needles for "Johnny's" basket, which I covered with flowered material. Card from Helen at Sis'. Mrs. Dunlap called. Helped Hans make cabinet for "Johnny." 1920. We finished grinding sausage. Jim was gone to Maquoketa over Sunday. Otto and Alvina Weidemann here in P.M. till it began to rain. We played whist. 1921. Letter from Myrtle Nelson. Helena helped, ironing, cleaning, etc. I got nearly two hours sleep in P.M. badly needed. Had fried chicken- a November chick raised at the barn.
