Saving...
May 5 1917. We cleaned the sitting-room, as it was a fit day at last. I put finishing touches on crepe waist. Helen spent day in town, decorating, etc for Junior banquet. 1918. Still summery. We walked to post-office a couple times. I wrote circle letter and to Hazel. Sat in swing, and read. 1919. Cloudy. Hans gone to Wakonda during middle of day. Amanda came in from Gunderson's, + went to Mitchell's to work. Kept me busy to get some baby-washing done, and baking (2 loaves white + 2 of graham bread and bread-sponge cake), as Hilda was awake so much, practically all day. Mrs. Miller, her mother Mrs. Hestie and Mrs. Crippen called. I went to bed before 8:00 to rest. 1920. Sunny. Put another hen off with chicks- making 125 near as I can tell. Drove Ford to Maquoketa in P.M. Spent more than $30- corn-planter attachment, etc. Managed to find my way about, being my first trip to town alone. Made trip in less than 3 hours. 1921. Have 290 chicks. Fine sunny weather for them. Did a lot of mending; cut out and sewed on gray gingham bloomers for Hilda.
