1917-1921 - 06-13

JUNE 13
1917. Ironed - with Mrs. Oles iron. Baked my first bread in my camp stone, which turned out quite edible. Strong wind again, and a few showers. I "helped" Hans point tamarack posts. His work for Mr. Kaiser, with Ole. began today.
1918. Gave front porch a good cleaning, sowed parsnips (first ones failed us), painted two tomato frames, did mending. Wrote to mamma and Helen. Had first Pak Choi (Chinese white vegetable) to eat. Hot and sultry. Small shower while we planted navy beans in big garden. Hot night again. 
1919. Baked bread and did first canning - 2 pts. of greens. Wrote to Herman. Mrs. Stewart here few minutes. Hans and I walked out to big garden in evening. Hilda has hardly gained a pound in 10 weeks. 
1920. Up at 3:00 to put goslings under cover, then it barely sprinkled. Hans and Hilda and I took dinner at Whitney's in Maquoketa. Took them strawberries + cream. at Otto Weideman's in evening. 
1921. Mended Hans' best trousers; after early dinner we went to Mrs. Carl Gruenwoldt's funeral at Buckhorn church, then to Nashville, for gas etc. We took a nice bunch of roses and ferns.
