Saving...
June 21 1917. Longest day of the year. Baked graham bread, did some mending. In the evening, we were so afraid it would frost we walked to town and covered our bean, tomato, and pumpkin plants. Called on Day's. Got school car to ride home in. 1918. Had first new potatoes. Baked corn muffins and quick coffee bread. Miss Dodge came for dinner. Hans came for his unexpectedly, too, just as we began eating. Miss Dodge talked up community canning kitchen at women's meeting in Methodist church. They elected me leader for the summer. Hans and I hilled 4 long rows potatoes. 1919. Have lots of new pea to eat. Saw an aeroplane which came to Vermilion from Sioux City. Sewed on my blouse, finishing it. Canned 1 1/2 qt cherries. Bernie Byrnes here in A.M., a few minutes. We finished planting navy beans in big garden. 1920. Finished a big washing at noon. Rained some. Sewed on Hilda's blue silk coat. Announcement of Ronald Herman Steen. June 22 1921. At 10:15 Minnie, baby and I started to drive Ford to Maquoketa. We left Hilda with Adela. I did a little shopping; Minnie had dental work done; we took turns keeping baby in nice rest room. Sent card to Helen; got letter from mamma. Home at 3.
