Saving...
June 22 1917. Hans and I left at 6:00 A.M. to take the Ford back to town. I worked in the school garden till one o'clock, hoeing, and replanting a lot of beans. Then hoed in our town lot garden, and had the dray bring up a lot of freight to our house. Walked home, reaching there about 6:00 P.M. Sadie Barnhart sent me crochet-edged centerpiece. Letter from Florence- first since we came here. 1918. Cleaned up house some- too awful dusty to pay to clean it well. Did up Red Cross shirt, pressed Hans' suit, etc. Got letter sent to Sis. Ordered "Conservo" steam cooker. Painted three square tomato frames. We finished the potatoes and hoed the three rows of popcorn and 1 of carrots. 1919. Very hot. Hans and I put in the day keeping Hilda cool, and reading Hamlin Garland's autobiography, "A Son of the Middle Border". Hilda, about as usual, stayed awake till 11:30 P.M. Had cauliflower for dinner. 1920. Helped iron, mended, and sewed. Letter from Sis. June 23 1921. Have been going so much lately I have to stay home to catch up sleep + work. We baked bread and did large ironing.
