Saving...
June 23 1917. Baked white bread, cake, and peach short cake. Jennie and Inge visited me. After dinner I went with Hans to Iverson's and watched the men dig cellar for a new kitchen. Mrs. Iverson gave me a sultana plant. Wrote circle letter. 1918. Wrote to Hazel Grimes. Church was "War Savings Stamps" theme, so didn't care to go. Hans and I tried to find gooseberries along Vermillion and Missouri Rivers, but failed. Had first Swiss chard to eat. 1919. August was here over night and for breakfast. I canned 3 qt. peas- some job with Hilda. Scrubbed kitchen floor, cleaned up front bedroom for new summer school roomer, Esther Henlein of Elk Pt. Cut out blue flowered dress for Hilda. Garden in eve. 1920. Canned the 20th quart of strawberries, only this had gooseberries mixed with it. More mending and sewing. Hat again. 1921. Picked peas as usual, and began on a big batch of mending.
