Saving...
June 26 1917. Mended. Sat in the swing and wrote letters. Hans and I hoed in our big garden, and as usual put in much time watching cucumbers, sunflowers, beans, and rutabagas begin to grow, and wishing the rest would. 1918. Letters from Aunt Emma and Helena. Ironed and mended. Had first kohlrabis to eat. Went with Mrs. Peterson to Christianson's to Royal Neighbor tea, and had of all things in wartime- white and graham sandwiches and 2 kinds of frosted cake and coffee. Mr. Bornemann of Sioux Falls, Pres. of So. Dak. Brotherhood of Threshermen, here for supper. I transplanted okra. 1919. Went to bed again after getting Hans; breakfast, but got so little sleep had to take a nap in P.M. Got nothing done but 3 meals + take care of Hilda. Took her to Dr. We weighed her on Davis' scales- 10# with her clothes on! I weigh 137#. Our scales not right. Hoed 2 long rows potatoes in evening. 1920. Picked and canned 1 1/2 qt peas, baked first cherry pie, baked cake, did a little Lux washing, took nap, and fixed up my box. Had first beans for dinner. In evening we went to box social at Christ Weideman's. Hans was auctioneer. A. Borgeret bought my box. Home 12:40. 1921. (June 25). Baked cream cake, but didn't' plan on any company, as I heard nothing from the folks. Good hard rain about 4 P.M.
