Saving...
JULY 12 1917. Sent Hans' lunch out with him. Spent five hours of forenoon in school garden, hoeing "beanery", carrots, turnips, beets, etc. Took a nap. Hans and I hauled up sugar and flour in school car, got a toilet set from Day's, came to Carlson's for eggs in evening. 1918. Planted chinese cabbage. I canned 4 qts. beans (Kentucky wonder & golden wax) and 1 qt. kohlrabi at canning kitchen (which nobody patronized). I wrote to mamma and Florence. Hans and I worked in garden till dark, thinning cane, hoeing beans & hulling peanuts. 1919. Baked bread, did some washing, canned 3 qts. beans. Hilda had a little colic in P.M. Amanda and August here in evening. We all went to garden. August stayed all night. 1920. Constance picked and we canned 4 qt. peas. Glen quit for a couple weeks to help his folks. I finished Hilda's blue gingham apron and cut out blue denim union-alls for myself for blackberry picking. 1921. Up at 4:30 and we got big washing done at 10:15. Minnie baked bread. Hans and boys got up at 12:30, took hogs to Nashville & got home before five. I mended binder canvas. Hilda was quite sick & feverish, with "summer complaint".
