Saving...
AUGUST 9 1917. Baked bread. Rye bread turns out better this time. Did more ironing and mending. "Helped" Hans make a cold-frame for pumpkins. In evening we took back blanket, etc. we borrowed in June of Mrs. Degernes. Got first letter from mamma up here. 1918. Did a ten day's washing - fine wash day. All I had to do in canning kitchen in P.M. was to take out pack of 24 qts. corn canned in A.M. Hans was only home for supper. I wrote to Sis. 1919. Letter from Constance in Canada. Amanda did most of baby washing while I baked pumpkin pies (first from our garden) and chocolate cake. Then we gave whole house a thorough cleaning. Martin [Smedling?] here for dinner. Wheeled Hilda to station to meet Gail and Dan on evening train, but they didn't come. 1920. Thru a big washing by 11. Letter from Sis and a satchel with blue sweater, 2 white hats, and 7 dresses for Hilda, also card from August. Mended. 1921. Finished a 7 washerfuls just before 11, and had to rush in Ford to get Alfred and Han's father to come and help fix silo that horses ran into. Adela came too to help hurry up dinner. Mended. Signe was fussy - she seemed to miss the Ford putting her to sleep: we used the organ instead.
