AUGUST 18 1917. Sent "Hilda" to Duluth Herald on forenoon train. Baked a chocolate cake - a horrible failure. Bought material for cushions for Morris chair - brown denim. Planted radishes, [illegible] head lettuce in cold frame. We took a dip in lake in P.M. Went to school garden in evening, then to church, just missing the C.E. social, which had departed to the lake. 1918. Letters from Helena, and Margaret Schneider. Sat around and talked till after early supper, when we drove out around in Garfield, stopping at Andrew Jensen's to see H.J. Hanson's, and other "Dansk". Had first wonderberries and pumpkin pie. 1919. Dried a batch of sweet corn, canned 8 qt. red tomatoes and 1 of apple butter. Finished "Doc Yak's" horns, etc. and he made his initial trip, to Wakonda, etc. Days are more comfortable now, mornings being quite cool. At Foster's in evening. 1920. Ironed some and baked chocolate cake. Constance left for Minnesota after dinner. At Lafe's in P.M. and stayed for supper. Mrs. Alf. Ruggeberg and John Scott's there. 1921. We canned 2 qt. grape jam, 2 1/2 qt. green lima beans, and 1 qt. K.W. beans. Mrs. Snyder called in P.M. Wrote to mamma.
