Saving...
August 25 1917. "Odd job day" for me. Cleaned up down stairs, baked raisin pie, did more mending, went down town and to school garden, etc. 1918. Letter from Constance. Had first ripe muskmelons. Wrote to mamma. First rainless Sunday for many weeks. Hans and I were invited to dinner - fried chicken, honey, etc. at "Hank" Meyer's Hans got so acutely sick after dinner that we gave up our planned trip to Wimple's. I drove both ways. 1919. Amanda and I canned 11 1/2 qts tomato (1 1/2 being preserves) and 1 qt. green lima beans. Then I worked on my salmon mercerized waist I began last spring, and helped Amanda finish her dotted calico dress. Walked to Court house for evening's work with canning team. Hans at Wakonda. 1920. Letter from George + answered it. Baked bread and ironed 1 1/4 hrs. and canned 2 qt. cucumber pickles. Get tired being on my feet. After dinner drove Ford to first Ladies' Guild meeting at Mrs. Wm. Broderson's. 17 women there. Business meeting. Peaches, cake, + coffee. 17 mi. of newly worked road made hard going. Got apples at Fugelsang's + folks'. 1921. Letter from Constance. Finished Hilda's percale apron, trimmed with blue binding and tatting. Caught another bunch of young roosters to fatten. We cold packed 11 qt. grapes.
