Saving...
AUGUST 31 1917. Stuffed back cushion for Morris chair, also tufted it, finally completing that. Several clean-up jobs, grocery inventory etc. took rest of my time. Rainy. We framed "The Ocean" in evening. 1918. Canned 1 qt. plums and 1 qt. plum jelly, and 2 of tomatoes. Baked wheatless bread. Went to town three times, - early morning, forenoon and P.M. Hans went to Yankton. Miss McEvoy and Miss Engler, history and H. Ec. teachers at high school, came and begged to stay. So I have roomers again. Had to clean house some. 1919. At noon we started to Alsen, making trip in Ford in 53 min. We took oats, baby cab, quilts, etc. Winfield and Hans put up 20 x 48 movie tent, with a little help from me and Amanda. We camped in it overnight. Our cake was stolen. I slept well on Ford springs on 8 camp chairs. 1920. Got our M.W. & S.R. stuff - Hilda a sulky, etc. Only ironed a little, baked bread, canned 2 qt. tomato, 2 of cucumber pickles, and 2 of Green Gage plums. Lacquered spare bed. Made 2 doz. sandwiches for social at Alf. Ruggeberg's in evening. We took Lottie. Guild cleared $15. Hilda was good. Ice cream etc. served on lawn. 1921. Busy from 5 till 9. "Pete" came in time for breakfast to help us cut corn this week. Glen and James Ford also helped, and Han's father, making me 6 men to cook for. I baked pies and bread and canned a gallon of grape juice.
