Saving...
SEPTEMBER 4 1917. Did two week's washing. Mrs. Day and Miss Thayer got dinner here, then began doing their own cooking. I stitched a pair of pajamas at Red Cross in schoolhouse. We got our first live stock, a red and a black pig. 1918. Was at the country fair a while in A.M. and all P.M. Miss Lauphier, our new Home Dem. agent, was here for lunch. She canned 2 roosters I bought, for demonstration. We got 1st premium on garden display, lima beans largest pumpkin (141#), carrots, salsify, and second in egg plant. Ole and Chesty's took in evening fair together - acrobats and music. 1919. Baked bread, rolls & chocolate cake, made 3 glasses grape-elderberry jelly and canned 2 qt juice for more, mopped, etc. Cousin Emma phoned out from Maquoketa about eight in the evening and we went in for her, making trip in less than an hour. 1921. Baked a chocolate cream cake before breakfast. Planned to spend Sunday at home. Olga and Orville came; we got dinner, then spent P.M. at the folks'. Minnie came back in evening, just before a rain.
