SEPTEMBER 23 1917. A beautiful Sunday - regular Iowa weather. Since Halvorsen shot the ducks, he and Stowell came for dinner to help eat them. I wrote to Artie Gates Niles and to Helena. Went walking after supper. Stopped in school a while. 1918. Washed on Monday once, getting a ten days' accumulation finished before 2 o' clock. Read, mended. Helped harvest the rest of the peanuts and some onions. 1919. Canned 6 qts. tomatoes and 1 1/2 qt. preserves. Finished mending. Frost, very light, is reported. Sent to Philipsborn for my winter coat, hat, shoes, etc. and made out M.W. order. Letter from mamma. 1920. Up at 4. We first caught 26 young roosters and I sold them to Kaukel, who came for them after dinner. Ironed a little. Made strawberry gelatin for eve. Helped milk twice, etc. Rained in A.M. and Hilda didn't like to stay in. Shower & charivari for August & Anna in eve. We gave aluminum pans 19
