October 27 1917. Baked white bread and canned 14 quarts of a half beef we got yesterday from Joe Steindel. Carita and Margaret went to Bemidgi for over Sunday. We went to Soph-Freshman Halloween frolic in school. Freshies "initiated" with electric chair, etc. 1918. Rainy and dark Sunday. I wrote Cousin Frank, read, etc. cleaned my desk. In evening Hans and I played "500" at Miller's. "Chesty" and I beat Hans and Reuben Westre 4 out of 5. Uncle Sam goes back to good old sun time- we turn clocks back an hour. 1919. Hilda had a cold and woke me so many, many times in night I stayed in bed till 8:30, sun time. Sewed some on my dress. Our wool army blankets came, also M.W. dry goods. I made me flowered bag for diapers, and began crocheting blue house-jacket for Hans' mother. 1920. Hilda not very well- stomach upset, from teething I suppose. Crocheted on her hood; hung out the washing after dinner- less than a reel full. Began sewing old coronation braid insertion in new pillowcases. Letters from Pat, and mamma, Rex loses out on getting his Vinton farm. 19
