November 20 1917 Washed, doing up downstairs curtains, too. Warm and nice. Hemstitched. Felt bum. Got cement sack full of hickory nuts, and 6 lbs. dried corn and some dried apples from Sis- 1918. Scrubbed porches, made ruffled apron trimmed waist for myself with insertion (for a Christmas gift), cut out white striped tub silk. I.B. & Hans in Garfield. Well midnight. Roads horrible. I.B. Johnson here for dinner again, and Margaret for breakfast. Letters from Anna Wilson and Alma Riemenschneider (at Mitchell). Finished "Michael O'Halloran." 1919. Got the week's washing on line by 9:30, except baby flannels. Finished my nightgown; began crocheting blue edge around top Hilda's gertrude. Started packing Hans' trunk for my winter's stay at Elmenhurst. Amanda here in eve. I took out front room rug. Hans began crating furniture. 1920. Baked pumpkin and apple pies and ginger-bread, gave the living quarters their first mopping for a week; finished my blue Hoover apron and the pink-edged blanket. Also finished and had Hazel mail the circle letter. Fine warm sunny day - Hilda played out lots. 19
