November 24 1917. Baked oatmeal bread, made salad, cleaned up house. Mrs. C. over in P.M. 15 at our party. Messrs Halvorsen and Stowell, Misses Robertson, Sinclair, Wagener, Hoch, Oftelee, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Blackman and Cogswell's. Had "Art Gallery," table football, "moving pictures," etc. Took flashlights - served Perfection salad, tuna sandwiches, cocoa with marshmallow, war candy (fruit & nuts), and nut marshmallows. 1918. Hans came home from Irene at 3:45 A.M. and slept till noon. I wrote to Hazel Scott and to Amanda and Adela. Another nice sunny day. We walked to post office. Too muddy for August to come in. 1919. Emptied out and packed contents of my desk, and a few other small things. Finished gertrude. Took nap - in Morris chair! August came and woke me. Wrote circle letter, sending it to Bess & Hazel at their folks at DeSmet. 1920. Hilda had very restless night, so I was very tired. I managed to dress one of my young geese, tho it took most of my spare time all day. 19
