MEMORANDA 1917. Half of December was intense cold, to as low as -48°. Cistern under dining room froze some. Had to keep pail of coals in cellar the coldest weather to keep it from freezing. Sleds and sleighs seem in abundance. Some skis. 1918. December very mild, till last day, which was first one below zero. Much plowing done in Dec. August is still husking corn. No thought of sleighing here, tho plenty of snow is on all sides of us. 1919. Thermometer above 32° but very little this month. Snow and sleighing steady till the last few days. 1920. We plowed till the middle of month. Snow from 21st on, six inches at Christmas. We still get up at 5:00 A.M. as busy farm life continues. 19
