April 23 1936 Planted long box of seeds south of house. Baked bread & rolls. Went to Wm. King's, Robt. Woodhouses' & Broessel's to solicit for hobby show in A.M. 1937. Electric iron on the blink, so we borrowed Callahan's & ironed. Baked bread, sponge cake, etc., mended. Helped K. plant 2 rows potatoes. Tired. 1938. Girls took over Frank's bed and set it up in Hilda's room overlooking Lake Mendota. I went in P.M. Signe driving, with last of fruit which we finished unpacking. Tired out. 1939. Fine day, but windy in P.M. S.S. & church at Middleton. Began actual writing of "American Dissonance". 19
